1. Help !! Rexx Reginald Installation Error !! #13597 Posted by: manichauhan 2012-05-24 19:11:30 Last edited by: manichauhan 2012-05-24 19:21:19 (Total edited 1 time) |
Hi,
I am trying to install Rexx Reginald on Windows XP SP2. I have installed Reglite in the directory C:\Programe Files\Reginald. I have then extracted the REXX Programming Center files into this directory. I am then unable to install 'rexxgui.dll' file.
I have downloaded the installer 'rexxgui.exe' from the rexxinfo.org website, but when I run it, I get the error message :
"The Reginald REXX interpreter must be installed!"
I don't understand why I am getting this message as I have already installed the RegLite REXX interpreter.
I have even tried to install the legacy version of Reginald REXX interpreter and get the same message.
Any assistance or pointers will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
I have downloaded all installation files etc from :
http://home.roadrunner.com/~jgglatt/rexx/win32/rxusrw32.htm
so I assume they are the corret versions.Mani Chauhan |

Rexx Gui's installer copies files to the same folder as Reginald's installer. If Reginald's installer worked (and Reginald is listed under Control Panel's "Add or Remove Programs"), then there shouldn't be a problem. |

Hi Jeff,
Thanks for the reply. REginald is listed under the Add or Remove Programs applet.
Is there a file that the Rexx GUI will be looking for to verify that Reginald is installed.
Should also mention that I am using Windows XP SP2. I am going to try to install it on my Vista machine over the weekend.Mani Chauhan |

Jeff,
I have tried the same installation process on my Windows Vista machine and an getting the same problem.
Would you be able to please verify what the Interpreter installation directory should be and also if the Rexx GUI is looking for a specific file to verify the Rexx Interpreter ??
Many Thanks,Mani Chauhan |

6. That's strange #13602 |
I've got reginald installed since years back and have just reinstalled it on a new 7 machine. When downloading the latest version of RPC, I was having problems writing to c:\program files (can't remember how I managed to install it there the first time, but I did). After reading up on UAC in 7, I moved the whole directory to c:\users\michael\reginald instead and installed there with no problem.
However, if I remember correctly, you can run the rexxgui.exe as often as you like. My memory says that you simply get a message indicating that it's already installed and do you want to reinstall. However, double-clicking on rexxgui.exec gives me the same error as you're getting.
Jeff - I'm getting the same error when attempting to install any exe file (for example, rxclip.exe, rexxmath.exe all give the same message).
Is there some registry entry somewhere that indicates WHERE reginald is installed ????? |
7. Mani - a follow-on to my previous append #13603 |
After moving all of reginald to c:\users\michael etc I then ran regedit and searched for all occurrences of reginald. Anywhere I found a reference to c:\program files, I changed it (where possible) to users\michael instead.
I than ran a registry scan to correct anything "incorrect". After that, I was able to install rexxgui (and any others) with no problems.
Maybe this'll help ? |

Thanks Micheal,
I have switched off UAC on the Vista machine, but will give that a try.
I am a little concerned that my c:\Program Files\Reginald directory only has the following exe files
Rxlaunch.exe Unrexx.exe RExxCentre.exe rexxgui.exe ExeStub.exe
Should there be any other exe files in the directory ?
Thanks,Mani Chauhan |
9. First of all, #13605 |
you're missing reglite.exe (this is Reginald). Try downloading that and installing and see what happens |

It looks like you have some sort of "protection software" that's interfering with the installation of reginald (or maybe a corrupted installer -- download reginald again). The uninstaller is there, but not reginald.dll. Also rexxgui.exe needs to be run, not copied to that dir |
