You could also get wxGlade to help you create dialogs visually and generate code from them. It helped me learn basics of wxWindows. wxGlade homepage:

Hi!
The second one is really good (uses my template :))
Although it is considered deprecated I still think this one isn't bad either: http://users.skynet.be/saw/wxWindows.htm
The whole compilation and setup has changed so skip the first chapter, but the rest tought me a lot.

Seems like it's really time to start a more complete tutorial series. :)
