I know how to query a tree item to check if it is selected or not but what i'd like to know is if it already exists or not so that i can dinamically add child items without overwriting existing ones.
Should i use VALUE()?

If you need to sync the contents of the tree with your REXX script, you'll have to maintain your own "tree" variables in your script.
I'm not sure what you're doing, but it's probably easier just to clear out the tree and fill it in with what is supposed to be there.
