I havent tried backing up with Leon yet. I have some questions but:

If I add a folder to back up, does it backup all sub-folders?
Is there away to exclude particular sub-folders when copying? Example:
Add "D:\Docs" to be backed up (including all sub-directories), exclude "D:\Docs\Lots_of_Images\*.*".

Yes, it includes all subfolders.
There's "exclude" option for filenames only currently(v1.77), will add subfolders exclusion at next version.

Exclusion of directories feature is done at v1.78, see readme.txt for detail.

What is the license agreement of LeonAutoBackup?

If this program fits my needs, I might use it for commercial gain (small business, nothing really big). PC work is slowing down for me and need to do some extra work to earn a bit more money. My brother said a sys admin on a mine site in the state we are thought we would make good money doing backups for home users and small businesses.

Being a contractor for Dell warranties we see it all to often that people don't back their data up, so I think we could make some money here by setting up auto-backup systems for them.

I've found some problems:

- Won't backup files when I click "Backup Now".
- Won't backup files if I check "Every X minutes" and set X to 1
(Doesn't seem to backup anything)
- After hiding AutoBackup, cliking the system tray icon to restore it does not restore the program properly. It's item appears on the taskbar but not on screen. Clicking the taskbar button "minimizes" it, putting it back to the system tray. Only way around this is to right-click the taskbar button and pick "Move" -> press an arrow key and AutoBackup appears on screen.

Biggest problem is I can't get it to backup!

Suggestions:
- Add scheduling. "Backup on 'day' at 'time'" etc. or "Backup on system boot".
- Perhaps an option to execute a program once backup is done. (Like your burning software, with parameters if the burning software allows it) for easier backup to CDR. (Or even better make LAB do the burning! [Might be too hard, it would be for me])

My system specs are:
AMD TBird 1.2Ghz
640Mb SDRAM
WinXP Professional - SP1
Logged in as a user with admin rights

Anything other info you need?

It's not tested under XP actually, sorry! Have you confirmed the file copy privilege from the source to the backup folder(s) manually? Could you try with win2000 also?

Re-run the program will also activate it on the screen.

"Every X minutes" only works while hidden in system tray.

For cdr backup, if you use directCD-like driver, it should work just like a hard disk.

If you create a shortcut at "startup" program group, and tick "when start", LAB will work while system boots.

Will add "scheduling per specified day/hour" at next version.

What are the file copy privileges from the source to the backup folders I have to confirm? As far as I know, the user logged in can manipulate practically any file they like on the HDD. Files to be backed up are not read-only or the backup folder is not write-protected if that is what you mean. They are just standard settings that Windows makes for your folders.

Is there some debug mode I can run the program in so you can get helpful information back from my system?

I also tried: Opposite click EXE file -> Properties -> Compatibility -> Select "Run this program in" Win95 or Win98/ME mode but this did not help the backup problem.

I mean, can you manually copy the source files into the backup folder (at Windows Explorer)?

I asked my friend who installed XP to try just now, seems all OK.

One thing is not mentioned in readme.txt English part: in order to ensure backup security, 0 byte length source file will not overwrite the non-zero length file exists in the backup folder.

Ok perhaps I have misunderstood how the program works.

1. "Working folders" - I thought these were like a profile (with the drop down box) that you "work" in. I set mine to D:backupleon. (The destination backup folder)

2. "backup folders" - I thought these were the folders to BE backed up under "working folder" profile.

I swapped the folders around and they work. I set to exclude "D:Docsimageschicks*.*" because there is 550mb of images. I will see if it excludes successfully... it seems good. :)

Here is my wishlist, as I really like LAB (easiest backup program I have ever found and the only one I've bothered to keep to use):

- Rename "working folder" to "destination folder" (this is mainly because "backup" and "working" can be interpretted backwards, like I did)
- When clicking "Add" on "working" folders, folder browse dialog could allow you to create folders (in the backup folder). I think you could just change the called dialog resource?
- Restore from sys tray working properly
- Don't know where settings are saved? Registry I guess. Some way to export the settings, or support for multiple profiles?
- I thought up this idea for my (primitive) batch file backup system but didn't get around to doing it, opposite-click a file/folder in windows explorer and select "Add to backup". LAB could pop up a dialog asking which folder to backup the opposite-clicked file to, and add it into the backup settings.

That is all for my wishlist. :) You don't have to do them if you don't like them. Is LAB opensource? Maybe I could get the source to edit for my own likings once I learn how to do it (maybe LAB source can teach me some things too)

Glad to know it woks for you! I bet you must have not read the readme.txt before using.

Yes, I'll add this in the next version.

I will try to change from Registry to a .ini file to ease this.

Seems not necessary since this settings change infrequently, according to my own experience.

Not planned yet, sorry.

Of course, that's based on Windows file system, if your CD-R/RW or DVD+RW is mapped as if a local drive, it's also supported.
